I started with a block of African Blackwood. If all came together well, it would protect my cheek from the metal tube in seasonal extremes and look pretty while doing it. I decided a couple of weeks ago to try and make a sleeve out of an exotic hardwood. Cushy and comfortable, but the foam wore over time and frayed at the edges. Next I modified a grip from an old snow brush. I first tried using woven paracord, it shielded my cheek from the steel, but moved a lot, and wasn't very pretty. Commercial options are out there, but I figured why buy something that should be easy to build.
The next accessory I had some troubles with, I wanted to cover the tube in which the bolt travels. With a quick debur and cold blue, it almost looks factory: I fixed that in a few minutes on a milling machine. So locking back the S2K to the right is a pain in the ass. I'm right handed, and I'm of the opinion that a persons strong hand shouldn't leave the grip of their rifle. I want to try the piece of rail that mounts to the 6:00 position on the forend ( ), and I will likely add a piece of rail at 9:00 myself. the position is awkward for a white light, and if I wanted to mount a laser sight I would want it to be separate from the iron sight (if I knock the iron, I would be putting the laser out of whack too). I opted for the model with the rail at 6:00, and I will probably cut it off. Never the less, I swapped it out for the Red Lion adjustable sight (. These grips can be found fairly cheap, I will have no problem spending the $10 to replace it when it breaks down too much.ĭespite what a lot of reviews read, I never had problems with my factory front sight. Only flaw I've had with this accessory is that the rubber has began to rot. I remedied this with a Pachmyer grip sleeve. Specifically, the seam where the two halfs of the grip meet. One thing I often think to improve on the mag holder, is to remove about 0.02-0.025" from the inside faces to make for a tighter fit, and reduce wobble in the spare mag.Īfter shooting the rifle a few times, I found the grip uncomfortable. I still stand by the spare mag holder, in that it adds a second magazine to a backpacking rifle without expanding the footprint by very much. Walking out the store I purchased the rifle, spare magazine holder, and spare mag. I first bought the rifle a little over a year ago. Some things were game changers, others aesthetic, and some unnecessary. This thread is me sharing ways I have upgraded the rifle. There are plenty of reviews both out on the web and even here on ZS which will give you a rundown of pros and cons of the KelTec Sub2000.
